- Got Super Street Fighter AE for PC so I could play with Haggard and stuff. It's great playing this game on PC, the graphics are good and not lag cuz i use a CRT monitor ^^. Anyway Yeah my steam name is "Wild Geese" (The one with the Roger Moore Icon) add me even if you don't play that game, I like steam friends

- Pre-ordered Deus Ex Human Revolution yesterday night! I am looking forward to this one and hope it runs good on my horrible processor (I'll overclock it again if I must >_>)

- If you are into playing Fantasy Football you can join my League: http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/register/tos?league_id=521523&password=joe . Just do it soon if you're going to at all.

- Don't really want to get SF3OE I decided. I need to find out how this port really is because I'm looking at the previews and it seems a bit suspect. Love the SF3 though.

- I didn't really quit twitter afterall; But I use it very much a lot less now.

- Still Looking for musicians to help me with my RPG game project. The game is 99% complete otherwise and needs the music now. 8-Bit Pontiff; you said you were in but never followed up. If you're interested you MUST keep in contact constantly!

I'm sorry but watching EVO matches of The King of Fighters XIII it looks like about the worst fighting game on the market currently. I don't want to hate on King of Fighters, I love King of Fighters, especially 98, 99 and even 00. Anyway there is so many HUGE problems with this game.

1. Stylistically many of the models are good but many look like abortions of design. Examples? Takuma, Ralf and Clark. What the fuck, these people don't even look human at all. I get to thinking they didn't really know what they were doing here at all and all good looking characters were incidental.
2. You got a widescreen zoomout on a RUSHDOWN game. What is the rest of that screen for? IT IS FOR NOTHING IS THE ANSWER.
3. The corner air juggles are ridiculous. Seriously out of control stupid. I saw a combo where Raiden juggles the opponent in one corner, *and then JUGGLES THEM INTO THE OTHER CORNER. THIS SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN IN A FIGHTING GAME EVER.
4. Look, the background animations are running at about 3X normal speed, it's like when you would press down the timer in SF2 to make the points go faster, but ALL THE TIME!! That's just fucked up.

LOOK WITH YOUR EYES

Seriously, Arcana Heart looks like a better fighter, BlazBlue looks better, even Mortal Kombat 9 looks better. They are deeper fighting games than KOF13, they have the exact same sort of problems but at least they haven't lost all sanity over them. KOF13 is a fucking blight upon KOF fans. A KOF fan would serve the series better by not buying it and killing the series rather than encouraging more of this nonsense.

Next in my series(?) of somewhat game reviews is Catherine.

This was never a game that appealed to me incredibly, though there was that aspect that, the game had style and it seems style is going out of style. I'd argue this is the chief motivator of Catherine's success, not the so-called sex appeal. A game like this is a rare animal in a jungle of games that may be great but have an ultimate sameness to them. Catherine is a game that appeared to be made out of stylistic things and probably wasn't that big of an actual game.

I was right sort of, It isn't a huge game, And paying $60 for it was a bit hard because i knew this. It was probably because the gameplay consisted of block puzzles, which is a redeeming feature of sorts. Who puts a puzzle game inside a virtual novel game? Well those guys did and the result is just fine with me. You aren't really getting to do much with the virtual novel aspect except determining the *final* outcome so it needed some challenging gameplay to even it out.

What's going on with the narrative aspect of this game? I think there is about four levels of narration, no kidding. You got Trisha introducing it to you, There's the normal announcer man, and there is a computer generated voice that says when you did a thing (repeatably if it has to), and then there's just protagonist Vincent talking to himself (you) about what he did. Damn, did we need that many narrations? It feels like a mistake.

There is a lot more to the game depending on how much more endings you want to see (there's 8), and how much you like block puzzles, since you could play the game on hard trying to get all golds, which is damn hard, or beat Babel, or Rapunzel.. That's going to take a lot of time, so the game can be a lot if you're really into it. But I'd say for how much they are charging, unless the game has interested you already you're probably better to wait on a price drop or used copies, at which point I'd recommend anybody try it out.

Most of gameplay is made of these electronic classical tracks, but it also has several Megami Tensei tracks in the Jukebox, like the one in my last entry.

This song is amazing. Heard it on the Catherine jukebox.

Yesterday I saw a Mitsubishi Delica, it was this old model:

It's so awesome, because most Vans you see are ugly, and somebody had to import the thing since they are asia market vehicles.

I wish I took a picture.

BTW: Do people want me to upload some of the photos I've taken around the place here? I posted them on twitter before but nobody ever noticed them.

Final! 30 days in 3! Time Kompreshunn``

Day 21 – Game with the best story
Persona 3 had a good story. All the MGS games of course. FFT and Xenogears were invocative. Earthbound and Dragon Quest 7 had good "story telling". Red Red Redemption had a great story overall. I like the simplicity of some stories like Monster World and River City Randsom. This is a tough pick... Going with Earthbound, because ultimately videogames are a series of events and places, and these things are what made the game great.

Day 22 – A game sequel which disappointed you
Plenty of them? I'm going to go with a recent and somewhat controversial choice; Megaman 9. I was just as happy as the next guy to see another NES game, but I noticed Megaman 9; it wasn't a throwback to where 6 left off, it was to where *2* left off. I'm sorry but that doesn't fly with me, just because you go backwards doesn't mean you don't try and beat 6. More people agreed with me after playing 10 and seeing it didn't do anything new either.

Day 23 – Game you think had the best graphics or art style
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. Screw the haters.

Day 24 – Favorite classic game
What's considered a classic game now? I heard Final Fantasy 10 be called a classic game a while ago. Damn it I'm old. OK; My favorite classic game is Super Mario 3 just like most everybody else.

Day 25 – A game you plan on playing
I got Assassin's Creed for $5 the other month, I'll finally play that game sometime soon or so. Of course I'm not too fired up to play it, otherwise I would of owned it sooner right?

Day 26 – Best voice acting
I love the voice acting in Killer 7, No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2. They were cast originally in English, so this is the original cast. It took a Japanese producer to get good English voice acting, how about that? Makes sense maybe. If I had to pick one... NMH1.

Day 27 – Most epic scene ever
I'm going to get it wrong for sure... there's so many epic scenes. First one that comes to mind is the final sequence before Zeromus in FF4, from where you enter into the battle between Fusoya & Goblez and Zemus up to where you use the crystal on Zeromus to unveal his form. So well played!

Day 28 – Favorite game developer
I'll assume this means an individual. Although his games aren't my absolute favorites I am very fond of Will Wright, he made the simulation genre not boring, no small feat! Made something revolutionary a few times as well. Wright has always been looking to the future, he still thinks of games like "toys" conceptually and this is a very productive perspective. I'm really happy he's out of EA now, without those chains maybe he can do something amazing again.

Day 29 – A game you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving
Grand Theft Auto 3, I used to be one of those guys I talked about in my last entry, but then I was over at a friends house and he had the game on. I actually *didn't know what it was*, and I loved it and felt pretty stupid when I found out!

Day 30 – Your favorite game of all time
It's Persona 3 or Dragon Quest VII. Whatever... Persona 3 it is!
wgeese: (Default)
Nobody replied to the first one but I remain determined, let's do this!

Day 11 – Gaming system of choice
I would say the Nintendo DS, but then it broke. So now I will say it is the Playstation 3. However the Playstation 2 and Nintendo DS are the greatest systems of all time.

Day 12 – A game everyone should play
I think everybody should play GRAND THEFT AUTO 3 (or VICE CITY or SAN ANDREAS), I know this seems like an odd choice but it is for a good reason. It is often I will attempt to have an intelligent conversation about videogames and I must mention the mechanics/design of GTA3; and the other person has decided to be an obstinate son of a bitch who refuses to ever play it, thus the conversation ends.

Day 13 – A game you’ve played more than five times
There is a lot of games I played more than five times, although this was more my tendancy back in the old days when there wasn't so many games to deal with. Out of all games I have probably played through Final Fantasy IV the most.

Day 14 – Current (or most recent) gaming wallpaper
I'm not entirely sure, It might of been for Tactics Ogre (PSP) or something.

Day 15 – Post a screenshot from the game you’re playing right now
Right now I'm going through Fallout: New Vegas. You don't need a screen shot do you? But I feel inclined to do what the quiz tells me without excuses so here:
Photobucket
It's a cool game.

Day 16 – Game with the best cut scenes
I was very fond of the cutscenes in the Metal Gear Solid series because they would use the ingame models rather than another set of models, I got to respect that they didn't go all CGI to sell more copies on LIES like most games at the time. Nowaways this sort of thing is normal but I'll still say Metal Gear Solid 3 was the best.

Day 17 – Favorite antagonist
Wesker is great, classic badguy. M.Bison (dictator) and Geese Howard are timeless classic heels too. Koei's Cao Cao has some good badguy lines (MY AMBITION CANNOT BE STOPPED!) but not a true antagonist. Liquid Snake was also very amazing with maybe the greatest final boss fight (bare-shirted brawl atop the Metal Gear with the stakes of your girlfriend exploding). But above all those I pick Pokey (Porky) because he is terrifying.

Day 18 – Favorite protagonist
This is a bit like favorite character except with the good guys, and I can't just say Big Boss again. one hero I really admire is Ramza Beoulve; He is heroic but not stoic or naive. He has resolve that isn't too cold or hot. He's like the Himura Kenshin or videogames (And Kenshin is one of the best heroes ever).

Day 19 – Picture of a game setting you wish you lived in
Oh lord I guess I'll need to post more pictures...
PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket
Harvest Moon (snes)! This game made me want to live in a farming town.

Day 20 – Favorite genre
Judging by my game collection it may be considered to be to be RPG's, but I don't really place any genre above another. I like beat-em-up, RPG's, FPS, and Fighting Games a lot but sometimes I just want to play strategy, or (any other genre).
wgeese: (turbo)
How can Double Dragon sound like Super Robot Wars music? I don't know but I can't argue with the results!

wgeese: (Default)
Sure, why not do 10 days at a time? Livejournal needs content.

Day 1 – Your first videogame
I wrote an entry about this. I am pretty sure the game was in fact "PARSEC" for TI-99/4A. There are reasons I doubt this somewhat but memory is a bitch.

Day 2 – Your favorite character
Videogames are a broad genre, I can pick a character because of how he played, or because of his personality, both, or even some sort of OTHER crazy reason. Overall though it must be BIG BOSS!!

Day 3 – A game that is underrated
There's so many games that are widely considered underrated that get re-rated highly it's pretty hard to do anymore. I said Dragon Quarter up and down for years until ABDN had to go and put in their top 33, assholes. OK, Here's the most underrated game other than that and it is WONDERBOY 3: THE DRAGON'S TRAP!

Day 4 – Your guilty pleasure game
Is this a trick question? I suppose you may all be very amused to learn I liked the casual indie game "Miss Management". Hell, I liked it so much I even drew fan art for it! Do I feel guity over all of this though? No, other people are guilty for not liking it.

Day 5 – Game character you feel you are most like (or wish you were)
I don't consider myself to be alike to anybody.
I wish I was more like Big Boss (except the infertility part).

Day 6 – Most annoying character
I'd love to say something different, but it really is Navi. If you can think of somebody worse you're probably trying too hard.

Day 7 – Favorite game couple
There is not a single good romance in videogames. Instead I will go for some buddies/bromantic couple. For this title I reward the duo of Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance.

Day 8 – Best soundtrack
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Or something like that.

Day 9 – Saddest game scene
The end of Lufia (the first) My goodness, I have never cried so much over a mediocre rpg!
OR; The ending of Metal Gear Solid 3. Seriously... :(

Day 10 – Best gameplay
Collectively, the Megaman series for NES. 2 and 3 are highlights for me.
